Sierra Wooden Swing Set ReviewThis playset was great for the price offered. The wood seems to be of good quality and we receicved all the parts necessary for construction. It took several days, but my husband constructed this by himself, you really need to take the time to get organized before you start. The picnic table portion seems to be a bit of waste because it is pretty cramped under there and I don't think my kids will use it much. I wish the playset itself was a bit taller. Overall my kids, 5 and 1 will get every bit of our moneys worth out of it. I would recommend this setSierra Wooden Swing Set Overview

Skyfort All-Cedar Play Set ReviewSkyfort:
Sam's Club had the best price.
The last board went on last night, five weeks to the day from when I received the four boxes and the slide. If you have a full-time job, have to go out of town one weekend and get rained out one weekend, doing it by yourself with occasional help from another person, working on it evenings and Saturdays, it will probably take you this long. I took a couple of days off from work to make up for the two lost Saturdays. If you choose to work on the Skyfort on Sundays (I didn't), you will finish faster. It is NOT hard! It is time consuming and just requires step by step organization. (See below about organizing yourself for each step or page.) If you like building scale model kits just pretend you are working on a full scale model, for the grandkids no less, and it is fun.
If you don't want an 18 wheeler in your driveway, agree to meet the truck at a parking lot near you and tran-sload the boxes. The boxes are 8 feet long and will fit two wide in a pickup bed. The slide is 10 ft, so you'll have to secure it with a cargo strap.
Following are extracts of "best recommendations" I used from earlier buyers as I was going along, plus my additional comments after having completed the project;
"Two errors in the manual...you must complete step 13 before step 12, and you will have to drill holes in step 88." We recommend getting the sand box floor kit. We used sand for our safety zone, so there was no need for the sand box under the tower. The full floor on the bottom makes the picnic table area nicer and not so crowded. If you install the optional floor kit, make sure the center support board lines up with the pre-drilled holes in the floor boards. The directions will lead you to miss it by about six inches.
"After you assemble the frame to the main playhouse, the instructions tell you to lay the bottom floors, then anchor it. This needs to be done the other way around. The anchors go under the floor...oops :)."We decided to use all 8 anchors just on the tower. You can buy extra anchors at Lowes or Home Depot to use on the swing and monkey bar supports.
"Make sure you have a lot of room to lay the wood out, it's amazing how many pieces this thing actually comes in. I sorted everything in alphabetical order and numeric order" It also helps to label the different alphabetical piles of boards with a sticky note (taped on) and text large enough to read standing up. The numbers on the boards are really small. You will be searching for specific boards as you assemble the parts for each step or page as you go along.
"LAY OUT ALL BOARDS, categorize, and inventory all things first. SAVES you time...only takes about 2 hours (i used garage floor)." It took me three evenings, two hours each evening, to complete the inventory and layout, including hardware. I used one garage bay to lay out the stacks of boards and one bay as a working area for treating the wood.
"Finding boards was easy. I would also suggest putting all the bags of Fasteners in large containers. I just put them in large zip lock bags, but plastic containers would work well."
DO THIS: Go to Lowes or HD and get two 18-drawer storage organizers (red - sold as a set of 2) and eight larger plastic bins (yellow - sold as a set of 8). You will use them all! I put these all on a shelf side by side, put a different set of hardware (screws, bolts, nuts, washers, etc) in each drawer, labeled the front of each drawer, and used the larger bins for the long bolts and large bags of screws. This pays off when you go to organize yourself step by step as you work through the 103 steps for assembly!
" Inventory all boxes when they arrive. The company two-day mails any broken/ missing pieces via their website." My inventory was 100% correct with a few extras on the hardware.
"Double coat all pieces with water sealant before building (it took almost 4 gallons.)" Double sealing is not necessary (use Thompsons water seal and read the directions), so you will only need two gallons of water seal. You can seal each set of boards by numbered step as you need them, or by page in the book, instead of trying to seal the entire set up front. This gives you a better routine, i.e. seal the boards for one step or page. While they are drying, go sit down and draw out only the hardware needed for that same step or page, then go back and do the work that far.
You can complete up through step 6 in your garage or work area, then move the assembly to the point of completion. "Build the first steps on very level ground, like a deck. Then move this box structure into place when directed."
"I would personally suggest an electric drill for the sake of power, speed, and less bulk( you will be doing a lot of pilot holes in thick wood) but if you have multiple batteries for a cordless, go for it." I purchased a 3/8 inch power drill/driver with two lithium batteries for $89.00 from Lowes. This is a life saver and a must have. 1/2 inch is not needed for this project, so save your money. Mine is Porter-Cable. One of the best tools I've ever owned. Make sure you get a snap-chuck set. This will save time when you have to constantly switch between driver bit for screws and sockets for bolts and lag screws.
For the areas that will wear, scratch, or splinter during assembly (they will), you can get Minwax sealer stain in Gunstock color.

Alpine Custom Ready-to-Build Swing Set Kit ReviewAnyone looking for a D-I-Y kit for a wooden playset should be smart enough to know there's is no way you'll be getting a full kit, with lumber included for just over $200.
When i ordered this kit, i pretty much knew what i was getting: all the pieces for assembling a play structure but w/o the wood. Knowing that i actually went to the manufacturer's website, www.swing-n-slide.com, and researched my options. I ended up buying the Alpine 612 kit. Similar to this one, but w/o the extra deck section. The website not only gives you ton of options, but also gives you an estimated cost for complete set up once you add cost of kit, wood, and accessories.
The kit was fantastic. All the pieces are quality, durable, and built to last.Instructions are super easy to follow. They make it as simple as possible every step of the way. Not only are the instructions clear, there is even a DVD that you can watch if you want. I didn't watch the DVD so I'm not sure if it's any more informative than the written instructions.
Ok. So how easy was it to build this sucker, and how long did it take me?I am not a experienced carpenter or craftsman. I'm probably the least experienced guy i know, but i think i'm smart enough to follow instructions.
I knew there's no way i'd be able to build this in 6-8 hrs like it states on the box, especially if i'm doing this alone. I ended up building the structure little by little throughout the week after i got home from work. I then spent the weekend doing a majority of the work. Most things are doable if you are alone, though it would be easier if there was a second set of hands. The only point that I truly NEEDED a second person was when i needed to set up the swing support beam and connect it to the tower part. I grabbed my neighbor and used him for about 10 minutes.
After tallying my hours i probably spent a total of 24 hours. Having said that, I was going at a comfortable casual pace, and I was alone. If you are more experienced in this stuff, i'm sure it'd go by much faster.
I'm really pleased with everything overall. Good price for what else is out there.
One final note. If you buy this set, you should by ground anchors at the same time because they aren't included in the box. I didn't know that until later, after the structure was pretty much done. Also I'd double your purchase of 2 1/2" screws recommended in the instruction book.
I'm very happy with this set. Kids love it. You will too.
Here's my breakdown of cost of the playset.
Play set Kit - $130 from Overstock.com
lumber - approx. $280 from Lowes
10 ft' slide - $160 from Lowes
steering wheel accessory - $14 from Lowes
baby swing - approx $20 from Babies R Us.
Ground Anchors - approx $20 from HomeDepot.com
Total - Just over $620 (right where they said it would be)
***UPDATE***
The instructions include an itemized list of size and quantity of lumber needed. It even showed diagram of how you should cut each piece to minimize waste. Good luck all!

Flexible Flyer Backyard Fun Swing Set with Plays ReviewThis swing set is not for people who expect perfect manufacturing upon delivery. If you expect that then look elsewhere. Instead what you get with this swing set is great value assuming that you have a bit of patience and that patience should pay off for years to come.
Life is like a box of chocolates... You never know what you are going to get.And with this swing set the box contains some surprises. For some reviewers they are missing parts and need to call up customer service. For me I received all of the parts but I had some screws that were too short (yes, I have some screws loose - ha ha) and I have a see saw that won't fit properly to the rest of the set and I had a bolt to the trapeze assembly that I had to have the local hardware store re-groove in order to work (more on this later). And for these problems as well as unclear instructions I have to deduct one star although in reality I think this is a 4.5 star product if I could rate it that way.
Am I satisfied with what I got? You bet! Sure I grumbled a lot due to issues but I had a blast putting it together despite the defects. And in reality the "problems" only cost me 3 trips to the local hardware store, a few dollars of longer screws, and sacrificing the fact that I won't be able to use the see saw without contacting customer support (which I'll do next - just haven't had the chance to yet). For the price and all of the gadgets on this thing I think it is a great value.
And I do believe that this swing set will last a long time and be a lot of fun for my daughter and her friends.
One thing that I haven't seen other reviewers mention that might be important to some people is that the swing set is only 6 feet tall. I personally am taller than 6 foot tall so the top bar is shorter than I am. For some folks that may be a smaller swing set than they would expect. If you are a parent and want to swing on the set with your daughter or son then be aware of the height limitation. I weigh over 200 pounds and I "tested" the set by sitting on it and doing "light swings" and the set held up fine under my weight although I have not yet been brave enough to test the set with bigger swings with my weight. I think my wife will do just fine with using the set if she wants to swing with my daughter though.
The above information is the pertinent information for the product itself. There is another aspect of this swing set that you should be aware of though which does not factor into the product rating but your own rating :). Specifically please be prepared, as a parent, to fail the intelligence test multiple times when putting this swing set together. Some of you are likely perfect but I'm certaintly not and many of the people that buy this swing set are not. Let me give some examples of ways that I failed the intelligence test which may or may not be applicable to you.
1) I put this swing set together in 108 degree heat in the middle of the summer of Arizona (fail!)
2) I tried to put this swing set together by myself rather than getting help (partial fail - I got it to work but it would have been easier to get help). Parents working together should realize that they have a choice of one parent watching the kid(s) while the other parent puts the set together. If they go with that option then the parent putting the set together may have difficulties but the kids will be isolated from the swear words from the other parents mouth as they put the set together :). Whereas if you go the other route you have to have a strategy to entertain the kids long enough somehow while both parents can find a way to work together. Tough unless you have family or friends to help with the care giving part :).
3) I tried to screw the bolt to the screw several times on this set without first visually aligning the bolt and the screw (fail! No matter how many times you turn the screw driver that screw won't go into the bolt unless it is aligned :) )
4) Assuming that screw lengths provided in the box are going to always fit the intended use for the swingset. (fail! I had issues with both the screws that attach the glider assembly to the top bar of the swing set and with the screws that attach the steps of the ladder to the ladder assembly of the slide. In both cases getting additional hardware helped. One funny story is that I spent 30 minutes trying to get a short screw to fit the bolt when no matter how many times I turned that screw driver it wasn't going to fit... Double fail! :) )
5) Assuming that when I got the A-frame (top bar and legs) of the swing set put together that the "hard part" was done (fail! Once the A-frame was together I found out that the leg positions in order to attach the see saw to the back right leg was important and I found out that the green cross bar on the left hand side of the A-frame needed to have holes so as to attach the slide. Both of these findings had me undo and re-do portions of the A-frame once I had it together)
6) Assuming that the bolt would fit the trapeze assembly screw for the chain link. (fail! The screw that I received attached to the trapeze chain link was poorly manufactured. I took the screw to my local hardware store and they 're-grooved' the screw by forcing a similar bolt as the intended bolt onto the screw assembly. A lot of work but I was proud with the result)
7) Assuming that the black plastic end-caps would fit the ends of the top-bar properly. (fail! I had to take a cutting knife and remove the inner lip of the three tiered black plastic end cap and then hammer it on in order to get it to fit. I had no problems with the end caps on the legs - just problems with the end caps on the top bar)
But I had a lot of fun failing these intelligence tests and I encourage you to do the same if you are up to it :). You'll have fun and the little one will have fun with the set :).Flexible Flyer Backyard Fun Swing Set with Plays Overview42013TFeatures: -6' Green Wave Slide with U.V. "POWERHOUSE XP" Play set ReviewNo where does it state this is just a few pieces to connect, advertised as a full playset like the picture. when you get the sad 40lb box, it's just connectors in a TINY box and full bull****!
This pathetic excuse for a company should be out of business and off amazon for fraud and false advertising.
There is no lumber, no slide, no climbing pieces, no swings, no pieces to ANYTHING-- all items seen CAN BE PURCHASED additionally ALL for ALL additional pricing...EVEN the frkn WOOD!!!! No one from the company responds to the FRAUD.
You have to fill a a-z guarantee with AMAZON and wait another two weeks after your return to dispute this crap.
I was refunded WAY LESS than my purchase price-not even what I paid.
Yo haVE TO ENSURE the box isn't written on or they can't rip off the next custoemr!
