15 Minute Total Body Workout (+DVD) Review

This book is perfect, exactly what I've been looking for, and the best thing is the DVD. It's incredible! It's so easy to follow, and so quick - I'm done in 15 minutes and on to the rest of my day. There's no stress on me to take 15 minutes a day to spend on my body. I can easily spend this much time experimenting with a new lipstick color. Everybody can find 15 minutes to exercise!

There are 4 different workouts and the variety keeps things interesting. The format is the same for each one: You warm up for 3 minutes, do 10 minutes of a really good routine - strength training plus heart-pumping intervals - and then cool down for 2 minutes with full-body stretches that remind me of Yoga. You can do it at home with just one set of dumb bells or a fitness ball.

And it's not just for women. My husband could do this - and should do it! He thinks that if you can't spend 4 hours working out it's not worth it; but that's overwhelming, so he doesn't do anything. The 15 minute workout is a good way to get started and be consistent. You can always add on and do more...

Strength Training for Women ReviewI have purchased several books devoted to strength training. I have to say, this book is the best I have found--by far.
What makes this book exceptional is how thorough it is and also how much variety it offers.
Exercises for home users--both those who use dumbbells, those who use resistance bands and those who use stability balls or all of the above--are offered. Exercises for gym dwellers are also given. This book caters to everyone in a very balanced manner.
The book covers upper body, lower body, core exercises and lots of stretching ideas.
While, sometimes, strength training can get confusing because one often questions which exercises are best, how much weight you need to use and how many reps to do, this book really does simplify the whole thing.
Also, there are both modified and advanced descriptions and photos for each exercise.
Usually when you come across a book on strength training, you see the same, basic moves you've seen (and probably done) a million times before. But Joan Pagano includes variations of moves even I, a fairly experienced exerciser, had never seen before.
The layout of the book is visually stimulating. Along with photos illustrating each exercise, there are illustrations showing which body parts are being used with each move.
The book was well-written as well. Joan's instructions are concise and encouraging.
Recently, I decided I wanted to start working out during TV commercials--just to add a bit of boost to my fitness routine. I found many exercises within this book I will be doing while watching TV.
I think this is an excellent book for an advanced exercise looking for a some new ideas. But more importantly, this is an awesome resource for a beginner. I will be purchasing this book for friends and family who are daunted by the idea of doing strength training. I suggest you do the same.Strength Training for Women Overview

Pokémon: The Haunted Gym (Official Pokémon Master's Club) ReviewPokemon: The Haunted Gym is a book based on the Pokemon episode, "A Ghost of a Chance," which is part of the Johto League Champions season.
On the front cover, this book is billed as being part of the "Learn to read with Pokémon" series. Reading through the book, it is obviously being aimed at children who are learning how to read. It's 32 pages long, and is a combination of text and pictures. The writing of the story has been simplified to make it easier for early readers to read the book; this is especially true when it comes to the dialogue. Unfortunately, by simplifying the dialogue, it does make it sound a little choppy. However, I understand that these dialogue rewrites needed to be made in order to make the book easier to read for its intended audience.
The pictures in the book are a combination of screenshots from the episode and art drawn for the book. However, there are no actual backgrounds for the drawings in the book; they just have a color for a background, so it makes it look like the character or characters on the page are floating in air. I really dislike not having a background for those pictures, since the screenshots on the next page do have backgrounds. It just gives the artwork a look of inconsistency. And when it comes to the screenshots used in the book, they have a very noticeably blurry look to them. The blurry screenshots are in stark contrast to the drawings. I don't know how much children pick up on this difference, but as an adult, I find it to be rather distracting when I'm reading the book with my youngest child.
I give the author and publisher credit for taking the episode and writing it in such a way where early readers can read the story of an adventure they've seen on television at a level that is right for them. However, I wish the artwork for the book had a little more consistency to it. Considering the age of this book, it's probably pretty much impossible to track down a new copy of it. However, if you have an early reader at home who is a fan of Pokémon, I would suggest purchasing a copy of this book if you can track it down. It's a book we first purchased when my middle child was an early reader, and he enjoyed it. His younger sister, who is an early reader and is also a Pokémon fan, has been enjoying it as well.

Playmobil 4324 School Set Furnished School Building ReviewThis is a great toy. My 7 year old daughter loves it so far and it has created many hours of play for her and her siblings/friends. There are a lot of sections to the school house that are very detailed and fun for the kids. The only problem I had was that it took me 5 hours to put this thing together. There are probably 1,000+ small parts that need assembled. I sat down to what I thought would take an hour,then started unloading the box and unloading...and unloading...and unloading. WOW! VTech Jungle Gym Monkey Moves Smart Seat ReviewNormally Vtech makes toys that are educational and fun to use. This one is a big dud. First of all, the rowing. The seat moves MAYBE three inches, I think more like two. It's hard to do any rowing, even for a little one, with a seat that moves such a small amount. The handle bars do move back and forth, but without a seat that moves well with it, the whole front end of the toy ends up rocking back and forth, which I think will break in time. The toy says it is for 18+ months, but again the position of the seat and the distance it will row makes this toy only useful for kids over three feet tall. When my daughter sits on the seat she cannot reach the foot pedals at the front of it. My son, whose feet do touch, is three years old and has absolutely no interest in it. As for educational, it says three colors, three fruits and counts to three. Manhattan Toy Baby Whoozit ReviewMy daughter LOVES the Whoozit! She has the female version (pink body instead of blue). This toy has a red heart that makes the "crinkling" noise when you play with it. Because it is red and makes the noise it is my daughter's favorite part of the toy. Since she's teething, she loves to put it into her mouth and chew on it. Unfortunately, she was chewing on it one day in the grocery store when the red heart got lodged in her throat. She was not breathing at all. Luckily, I was right in front of her, noticed it, and immediately pulled out the toy. I just can't help but wonder what might have happened if I had not been standing right there with her when it happened. I've told several of my friends about this and they told me of similar stories they have heard from other people. From now on, I tuck the red heart into the inside of the toy (between the two body sections) so my daughter can't get to it. All the kids who I've seen playing with it seem to love the Whoozit, but the one crinkle piece is a choking hazard.Manhattan Toy Baby Whoozit Overview

Playmobil School Gym ReviewWe this for $36 at FAO Schwartz in NYC. Once together the toy is fabulous, but it took around an hour to put together. The pieces didn't pop together like the instructions said, so I had to jamb them together w/force. 'We own a few Playmobil products, and this one was the hardest to put together..I wonder if they changed manufacturers.
My daughters (8&6) love playing with it, but if you are buying it for a Holiday gift, you might want to put it together b/f you give it to the child.
